We Survived H1N1
“To be sick is to enjoy monarchical prerogatives.” – Charles Lamb
It seems as if my son has made a full recovery from his bout with the H1N1 flu virus. I was starting to worry on Thursday and Friday. Although his fever stayed down around 101 (an improvement), he was exhausted. He slept for the better part of those two days. This is not like him at all. This is a child who still, at age 9, after having to do this every night his entire life, still pitches a fit at bedtime and will never admit to being tired.
By Saturday his fever was gone and he was so bored. Yay! He even went outside to play for a bit on Sunday and went back to school (he seemed almost happy) yesterday.

So far, no relapses, signs of blood clots or pneumonia as in some of the articles I’ve read. We did nothing unusual to treat him. No TamiFlu, just chicken soup, Tylenol and Motrin for the fever, and lots of fluids and rest.
Miraculously, none of the rest of us caught it either. We’re well past the incubation stage and I’m pretty sure I’ve disinfected every surface in our house. I hope this is our one and only experience with this dreaded and much publicized virus and happy that it seems to have been no worse than the regular seasonal flu.
Thanks for stopping by!

Glad to hear he’s feeling better…i hope that you don’t catch it either.

Glad to hear that your son is feeling better. I am sure you are finally tgoing to sleep well tonight! I love the basis of your blog. Your writing is very easy and enjoyable to read.
Well, thank you very much, and welcome!
Maybe we should write blog posts about things we survived. The scary flu, 14 hours of labor, naughty neighbors, Saturday at Ikea, bad husbands, etc.
It just dawned on me how many things I have survived. See how inspiring you are

Oh my….I could probably fill entire books with just my labor stories!! Saturday at Ikea is book-worthy too. Ugh.
Awesome! I find that traditional methods work the best for colds and flu. My mom always gave us chicken rice soup and ginger ale whenever we were sick. And, she’s a nurse!

What a relief that must be for you to see him out and about again! And amazing no one else in the house caught the bug. You guys must know how to use that hand sanitizer!
I am glad to hear your son is doing well. My kids jus went threw it. Actually 30% of the children in our public schools here had it. I was lucky enough to not catch it, thank god because was 9 months pregnant.

Thank you! Did your kids have similar experiences to my son’s or worse? Wow, it is good that you didn’t get it. I can’t even imagine. I was a miserable person just being 9 months pregnant even without the flu!! 30% …wow!
