Bullies On The Bus

2009 August 27

“I loathe the bus. There has to be a more dignified mode of transportation.” – Sixteen Candles

Some little asshole 8th grader punched my 6th grader in the arm on the bus yesterday.  I have a lot to say on this topic but right now I just want to go all Rebecca-DeMornay-in-The-Hand-That-Rocks-The-Cradle on this kid.  Unfortunately, I can’t find a video clip of that specific scene from the movie to put up here.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about, she is a psycho nanny and threatens to rip some kids f-ing head off on the playground for doing something to the kid she watches.  Probably not the best idea for me but it’s a fun little fantasy.  :)

Thanks for stopping by!

It’s amazing the purely guttaral response this kind of event sparks in all moms. I want to beat up the little bastard for you! All moms know how it feels when the mama bear claws are provoked :)

I assure you, it evokes something quite similar in fathers… This bully nonsense drives me NUTS. UGH! I hope that it gets better, Cyndi.

School bus companies have video capability on their bus. Call the Safety Coordinator of the company that serves your school district, ask what measures can be put in place. Ask if the bus driver made a report to the school.

If not, request that it be done. Bullies need consequences. You are just that. :-)

I did find that out yesterday (there are cameras) so they are on it. I have so much to say about this but won’t have time to write it until later today!

Ohhh good tip on the cameras! I forgot about those, it’s been so long since I rode a bus.

I do have to say, however, that I could go hug and kiss you right now for the fact that your kids DO ride the bus. It makes me sick to my stomach everytime I pass a school with 6,229,402 SUVs lined up to pick up kids that all of a sudden are “above” riding a bus. We all survived – and they can too!

(Well, unless of course something like arm punching happens, which is unfortunate but I hope that little shitster gets caught on tape and reprimanded!!)

That’s funny! I DO know a family that doesn’t allow their kids to ride the bus because they hated the bus so much when they were kids. :)

i never did ride a school bus as a kid — we lived walking distance till i moved abroad, and then we went to schools where my mom either had to drive us or we used public transportation or walked… i always wanted back then to ride a school bus — felt like i was missing something.

    i wasn’t!

that stinks to have that happen at the start of the school year. i can feel your rage. my kids have had their share of bad bus experiences. i taught them how to look at someone with dripping contempt, and just say “whatever”. it took a lot of practice to get the tone right! but it works for a lot of different things, especially up through middle school :)

    a big hug, cyndi.

I love the quote at the top. My son and I are reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Again. I can’t stop laughing. He tells me to pull myself together and keep reading.

When my son was being bullied in sixth grade and the bully wouldn’t stop, I gave him the gangta sign one day when I saw him walking to school. You know, the two fingers pointing at him, then at my eyes, then at him.

He turned three shades of red and never touched my kid again.

I’m known for my maturity that way.

We love that book too! :)

I love your solution. It’s right up my alley. Scared the crap out of him without you having to go to jail. Nice!

Oh, Amy. That’s so funny! We normally resorted to reporting the brats. One time we knew the parents (they were scouting volunteers like us) and they were mortified that their kid was bullying my son and stopped the nonsense. Another time, the damn teacher punished my kid for hitting back but did nothing to the kid that started it cuz she didn’t SEE that–I HAD to set her straight. Oh, the joy of being a parent.

If my child were being molested on the bus I would most definitely report it to law enforcement and the school.
