Making Some Progress

2009 June 2

“Perhaps this is how you know you’re doing the thing you’re intended to: No matter how slow or how slight your progress, you never feel that it’s a waste of time.” – Curtis Sittenfeld

I love this quote.  Of course, I love all the quotes I use and quotes in general.  They make you think.  I’m stalling.

Here’s the thing…I don’t know what the hell I’m doing with this new website.  Seriously.  I had a lot of help getting it to it’s current functional state.  I spent hours upon hours working on it this weekend and several more hours last night.  I still can’t even get the freakin’ banner up at the top!

I have willingly thrown myself into a world where foregin abbreviations such as “FTP” and “CSS” are included as part of the instructions on how to perform a certain task.  Here’s one I DO understand….WTF?!

I started to become somewhat agitated by my own lack of knowledge about  these things because they are necessary for me to do different things with my blog.  I want to do many different things, some of which I probably don’t even know the correct term for yet, let alone how to do them.  I’ll get there.  Slowly.  But, I’ll get there.

The progress I have made is that I didn’t freak out about it, beat myself up over it or quit.  I even walked away and left it in it’s current imperfect state.  For me, dear readers, that is progress.

Thanks for stopping by!

you should take a class in web design. I took some computer classes over the years through ed2go.com. COD also offers online classes so I’m sure your local community college would also.

You’re right, I should. I was just thinking of getting a “for dummies” book but a class would be better. Online would be best though, thanks for the link.

I am celebrating your progress and loving the quote. Love it ;-)

It’s the content not the cover, this reader loves the most.

I agree with you totally! That’s why I haven’t even dared to try the same with my blog. What a great quote to start the day with… It will remind me that one day my house will be clean – no matter what my progress is like. I also agree with Tammy your content is what I look forward to as well. Keep inspiring us!

No better way to learn something than by forcing yourself to do it. You’ll get it and then you’ll be amazing…and then you’ll have all of us bugging you how to start one of our own. :)

Cyndi, I think you have a wonderful blog and I’m impressed by how much you have taught yourself! Question – did you buy the book “31 Days To Build A Better Blog” by Problogger? I’ve considered reading it to learn some SEO stuff, etc. – I hear it’s excellent. Just curious what your take was on it if you’d tried it. ;)

Love & lots of blog hugs!

I joined ProBlogger’s 31 days to build a better blog when he offered it for free the first month. Each day was a new task that he suggested and yes, it was excellent. He’s now offering it for $19.95. I read (on his blog) that some people that he consulted with suggested that he charge $50 and up for it but that he was pretty confused about the “right” price so just went with $19.95 and it’s already broken even for him. I love how while he is considered the expert of bloggers, he has no problem being completely honest about the things he doesn’t know much about or is unsure of.

Here’s where having a computer programmer boyfriend comes in handy! My blog would seriously be a white page with Times New Roman print and no pics if I didn’t have his help.
