The Make A Change Challenge

2009 April 20

“I have to admit that I lie on my Weight Watchers’ food list. I’ll put down that I had 3 eggs…but I won’t put down that they were Cadbury Chocolate Eggs.” – Caroline Rhea

My blogging friend Tammy over at A Moment In Time has started the Make A Change Challenge as a way to get all interested bloggers and non-bloggers to jump on her bandwagon to lose weight and be healthier.  I apologize in advance (sorry Tammy, I couldn’t resist ripping on you about this, it’s how I roll) for her shameless quoting of bad Michael Jackson songs….she’s a goofball.  :)

Having said that, I have wanted to get back into shape for some time.  I’ve talked about it extensively with hubby and even blogged about it quite awhile ago.  What have I done about it?  Nada.  Zip.  Zero.  Tammy has inspired me to get my fat ass in gear!

So, each Monday I will post my progress here.  I won’t bore (or terrify) you with a before picture, the actual numbers on the scale, or a list of my daily caloric intake.  I’ll just summarize my week and progress.  If you’d like to join us, head on over to Tammy’s blog.

My initial short-term goal is to lose ten pounds by Mother’s Day.  This is realistic and doable.

My biggest challenge is going to be the fact that we’ve had to put our membership to Lifetime Fitness (one of my happy places that I miss terribly) on hold due to my continued lack of employment and income.  I’ll have to find other ways to work out.  I’m considering going for a walk/jog this morning.  I’d prefer to do it at a nearby forest preserve because it’s peaceful, beautiful and I like going there.  However, multiple family members have repeatedly warned me of the dangers lurking for women who go into forest preserves alone.  Maybe I’ll still go but bring my mace.  If I disappear, they’ll know where to start looking.

I’d like to thank Tammy for re-motivating me and hubby is on board too!

Thanks for stopping by!

Isn’t it wild how all of us unconnected people can be going through so much that is similar? I actually joined Weight Watchers 3 weeks ago! Never wanted to do it, as it seemed keeping track all day would make me that much more hungry. But I have to say its been great-very hopeful. You have a bad day and you know exactly what to do the next day-just get back on the tracking. Good luck to everyone out there…

If you run in to any problems with hoodlums during your walk/jog this morning just bust out in song….”Just Beat It, Beat It, Beat It…”

Maybe it will turn out like a Jackson video and they will start dancing with you….

    LOL!~

    Here we go!

I just got a scale and need to work on myself, too! Curves worked wonders for me a few years ago, but I’m in the same boat as you. Way cut back work hours don’t allow me to join, so I’m flying solo. We have a nice bike path by our house, but going alone is always an issue. I bring my cell phone, but maybe should get a little mace can, too.

I heard the best defense is to act crazy. Hoodlums don’t want to deal with crazy people. Maybe talk to bushes, ask “The Maker” to come take you away, start drooling, etc.

Anyhoo, can’t wait to read about your progress. You go, girl!

Well…not to brag or anything…but I walked 3 miles Thurs & Fri–and I forced myself out for a jog before it rained today. You know, the Accountant’s New Years Resolution is still fresh! :) Maybe joining you all in this effort will keep me on track. Thanks for this post Cyndi. And thanks to your friend Tammy for the challenge.

    Good luck!!!!

What worked for me excersise-wise was realizing that the easiest way for me was to take a brisk powerwalk (30-50 minutes) every day. I was honest with myself and saw that every time I started swimming, going to a gym, I stopped eventually. It was too much of a hastle – going there, changing clothes, showering there, schedules etc etc… Plus, as you say, walking/jogging is much cheaper too :-) I decided to walk, because I’m not so fond of jogging, and when you don’t like something that much, you are much more likely to avoid it…

I’ve walked every day (almost) for a year now, and by now it’s a habit I do automatically!

    Hugs from Free

LOL – I’ve had the freakin’ Man In The Mirror in my head ALL MORNING!!!

I did go for a walk but stayed in my little neighborhood. I am SO out of shape. I did jog a little. Thought my legs were going to fall off.

I know, it never ceases to amaze me how we just find folks with similar interests online. I’ve never tried WW and can’t afford it now. Good for you!

    Thanks! Yes we are!!

Congratulations! That’s right, I forgot about your resolution. I’m not really sore today so clearly I was just being a big baby yesterday. I don’t feel like I’ve accomplished anything unless I can feel it the next day.

LOL – I’ll keep that in mind next time I go into the “evil” forest preserve. :)

Thank you and good for you! I love going to the gym and miss it so much. Walking/jogging will have to do for now.
