Amazing Weight Loss Plan – Guaranteed To Work

2009 February 9

“Perhaps you have a lumpy ass because you are preserving your fat cells with diet soda”
Rory Freedman (Skinny Bitch: A No-Nonsense, Tough-Love Guide for Savvy Girls Who Want to Stop Eating Crap and Start Looking Fabulous)

Before I get to the super secret guaranteed weight loss plan, some background…

I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life.  I’ve probably lost and gained hundreds of pounds over the years.  Then I had 2 kids in 2 years, one via c-section.  Then my thyroid stopped working.  After that I pretty much gave up.

Looking at home movies this weekend slammed home for me, once again, just how much I had given up.  YIKES.  I will not disclose my weight EVER but suffice it to say, at my heaviest, I was well into double-digit sizes that I am not proud of.

There are so many reasons/excuses.  The thyroid thing.  My age.  Stress.  I’m a stress-eater.  There are some other psychological theories too.  One is that the extra weight allows us to be invisible.  I’m sure this was true for me.  These were all contributing factors to my letting myself go.   All of these things are helpful to know about myself.

Having said that, none of these things are insurmountable road blocks to losing weight and keeping it off.  None.  Not even hypothyroidism.  I take medication for that.  Big deal.

A few years ago I finally got my shit together and got serious about losing weight.  I wasn’t happy with how I looked.  I was responsible for how I looked and had the power to change it.  It was as simple as that.  I dropped a total of 50 pounds.  I lost about 40 of those pounds within a 4-5 month period.  I got down to a size 6, which I don’t think I had ever been, even in high school.  I felt GREAT!  I learned to LOVE (and I mean truly LOVE) shopping again.  I also got my sense of sexuality back.  Who feels sexy when you’re worried about how you look?

In the past year, I have not been vigilant and have put a little of the weight back on.  I’m nowhere near my heaviest, but also further from my optimal weight than I’d like to be.  That all ends today.  I’m going to do what I did before.  Are you ready for the super secret plan?  Here it is…

Exercise regularly, eat healthy foods and practice portion control.  It’s seriously that simple.  That’s all I did.  All of these expensive fad diets and weight loss plans are nonsense.  All of these excuses for why we can’t lose weight are also nonsense.

So, I hit the gym this morning.  I am not in the shape I was a year ago due to my lack of keeping up with it.  That’s ok.  I pushed myself and had a good workout.  I’ll get back to where I was soon enough, one day at a time.  It felt GREAT!  I can’t wait to feel that awesome muscle burn tomorrow and do it all over again.

Thanks for stopping by!

Talk about being on the same page! I am right there with ya’ sista!

I recently went through the same thing and now I am back in the gym, eating right, and feeling good!

I am participating in a little experiment which I am going to blog about but I am waiting to see what happens. If nothing else it will be another funny story!

Congratulations on your weight loss! Like you, I’ve probably gained and lost a few 100 lbs., and right now I’m my heaviest ever. Menopause sucker-punched me and I’ve yet to recover.

I agree with you that there’s no magic bullet. In the past, I’ve done exactly what you did and the weight did come off. This time, no.

As for your quote, my sister gave me that book for Christmas and I don’t think I’ve ever read anything more infuriating. It was snide, condescending, and demeaning, like being taunted on every page by two skinny California flakes whose idea of relating to readers is to insult them on every page.

Oh, and did I forget to mention that their solution for losing weight is to go totally vegan?

For anyone out there who may be looking for a weight loss guide, “Skinny Bitches” definitely ISN’T it. If you feel you must read it, borrow it from the library. DON’T buy it. They don’t deserve any positive reinforcement, since they certainly don’t provide any.

I read the book and have to agree – it’s propaganda to get you to “go vegan.” There are some useful tips buried in there, but the majority comes from links and sources they support, so it’s heavily biased. Read at your own discretion – and I agree with catsworking – check out from the library.

My cousin and I recently decided to get our asses in gear, too! She’s jump-started hers though, with an 8 mile bike ride and yoga classes. I’m still in the “organizing” mode, but am actually working on incorporating the dog. I read somewhere that an overweight dog ALWAYS means an overweight owner. haha Not to say we’re both overweight – just not at our healthiest. So, he’ll be enjoying some walks and exercise w/ me too!

I’m contemplating Curves, which I’ve used before w/ fantastic results, but am afraid of spending the money right now (boo! economy) esp. if I turn into one of those gym members who never use their membership!! I might start slow w/ home work-out videos and walks/bike rides (warm up, weather!) and see if Curves eventually fits in.

I believe that yes they are vegans and yes they want you to be too…..but, there is A TON of useful info in there. Once you learn about where your meat comes from and you can make peace with the process, then more power to you. But I do suggest that you keep it on your list of books to read. You can have it done in 2 days I’m sure. And come away from it with WAY more knowledge about the crap you put into your mouth.

Oh, and they joke about how they named the book Skinny Bitch to be catchy and sell more books! It is just business.

As for the condescending remarks…..they aren’t there (admitedly) to hold your hand through your struggle. They don’t hide the fact that it is no nonsense in your face common sense. Sis, they talk like you and I do on a Friday night, total easy read and total slap upside the head. They offer no room for excuses.

OK…I have a HS reunion in July..so a few of us from the class have started a “be the biggest loser at the reunion” site here on FB. These are not diet books but definitely books that you have to read for inspiration while dieting.
    # Jen Lancaster- “Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist’s Quest To Discover if Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, Or Why Pie is Not The Answer”
it was so funny it made me laugh out loud. It’s her experience with the struggle, she’s a blogger at jennsylvania.com
    and
    #2 I’m reading now…also by a blogger its “Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir” by Jennette Fulda her blog is PastaQueen.com
Once again, we are in sync. LOL Good luck with the struggle. I told the boys that they are going to jog with me..They can’t wait.

It’s so bizarre how we (blogging-women) always seem to be on the same page!! We found each other for a reason. :)

  11. February 9, 2009

Ok, I have to admit, I have not read the book. I just liked the quote. And there is no chance that I’ll ever go Vegan!

  12. February 9, 2009

Good for you! I’m so glad you guys told me about this book being Vegan propaganda. It WAS on my to-read list but there’s no way I will ever give up meat so….not so much.

  13. February 9, 2009

Great idea for your reunion! And damnit Paula, why do you insist on giving me more good books to add to my very lengthy to-read list??! :) Now that I’m in workout mode I’ll have to read these immediately. :)

  14. February 9, 2009

Ok, this is yet another in-sync moment. I was blessed with the same assets as your sister, along with my non-existent metabolism. And my sister was blessed with your metabolism. Thanks for your support! :)
