Taking A Look At My Past
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.”— Søren Kierkegaard
Do you ever look back into your past and wonder what the hell you were thinking? When I refer to the past I’m talking about the distant past, one year or more. Especially more. The further we get away from our past, the more we change (hopefully) until at some point, when we look back, we barely recognize the person we were then. Well, at least that’s how it is for me.
I’m not even talking about looking back at major events. Sometimes just some random memory pops into your head. The memory can be either a pleasant one, or not. Either way, you don’t necessarily even know why the memory was brought into your current stream of thought. Although, if you could back-track and figure out what led you to this memory, that would probably provide some significant insight. In any case, when some random memory pops into your head like this, and you can’t begin to imagine why you behaved the way you did, it’s evidence of growth.
When I think about some of the things I said, did, accepted from others and put up with, even a year ago, I am completely amazed. I honestly cannot recognize who I was then. I’ve spent that year consciously working on self-examination and evolution, so I do know why I was the person I was then. I also know how I came to change so completely. It’s still a surreal experience to have a memory in which I can no longer identify with the person I was then.
Thanks for stopping by!

I bumped you from A!! I’m sorry SMMTAM.
As for the post, I think I’m with Kierkegaard on this one.
Good luck!
i know exactly what you mean. my past year has been very similar to yours. i look back on some things and wonder who that person was. the amazing thing is, it took those actions/mistakes/choices or whatever to make me look different today. i guess the only way we look different in our past is if we have changed in our present.
Thanks for your comment. Very well said.
