Irish Car Bombs, Crying, Jello Shots, Family, Tequila…It Must Be Christmas!
“The most enjoying traditions of the season are best enjoyed in the warm embrace of kith and kin. Thith tree is a thymbol of the thpirit of the Griswold family Chrithmath.” – Christmas Vacation
Yes, our annual Christmas Eve party is traditionally a fun, drunken, gluttonous, hedonistic party. There is nothing Holy about it but we, along with both sides of the family and assorted friends, always have a great time.
So, the Irish Car Bomb, is a shot/drink that apparently has been around since 1979 but I have only recently become an enthusiastic connoisseur. I don’t like any of the ingredients (except Bailey’s of course) by themselves, but chugged together….. pure magic.

My Betty-Crocker-like sister, made Jello shots this year which were also a big hit, especially the festive presentation..

Festive Jello Shots
The Tequila appeared very early into Christmas morning, as usual, and the 3rd shot put me over the edge. The house was spinning, I had to go to bed.
But, before that, there was a ton of food, lots of fun, several rounds of Scene It (I’m pretty sure I beat everyone at every category but I can’t be certain due to some memory loss), kids’ opening presents and crying. No, the kids weren’t the ones crying. They did get to open some presents though. That really is my favorite thing about Christmas, watching their wonder and surprise over every little present. But back to the adults crying…
My Mother-In-Law was upset about a friend who had to work that night. I always say it’s not a real family get-together unless she cries over some ridiculous thing. My Sister-In-Law is involved in an extremely dysfunctional romantic relationship of the worst possible kind, so she was crying about that. Then, a friend of hers, who I really don’t know very well, is having marital problems, drank way too much and just had to get some things off her chest.
Other than the short crying jags that, thankfully, didn’t actually involve me, it was a blast that didn’t end until I stumbled into bed around 3am. Hubby, being the wonderful man that he is (and much less inebriated than I) cleaned everything up before he went to bed so when we got up, our lovely home didn’t even resemble the morning after a frat party.
Christmas Day was perfect too. We went to my sister’s for some amazing breakfast, exchanged presents, and were home napping by noon, which is how we spent most of the rest of the day.
Whatever your version of a perfect Holiday is, I hope you got it. I did!
Thanks for stopping by!
