School's Out!

“Getting ready to go to school was like getting ready for extended deep-sea diving.” – A Christmas Story

I’m so happy to be on here!  Blogger’s withdrawal is UGLY.  The past two days have been crazy.  I had finals, my oldest son had his first band concert (saxophone – how studly is that?), there was a snow/ice storm, my first week at my new job, etc…craziness!

Anyway, not only was school canceled today for the boys, due to the weather, but I am officially done with my first semester back in college!!  Before I move onto me, what is the deal with the school closing?  I vividly remember school almost NEVER getting canceled for bad weather, unless it was a major blizzard.  All we had was ice and then a couple of inches of snow.  You always hear adults complaining about how the younger generation is spoiled and/or weak.  Who decided to cancel school?  AN ADULT FROM OUR GENERATION!  Sorry for the rant, I digress…

Back to me.  I’m done with my first semester!!!!!  It’s bittersweet because I did enjoy both of my classes, but I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment at the same time.  One milestone down, two-hundred or so more to go.

I went into this semester telling myself I would be happy with a C in speech class because of my major public speaking phobia.  The instructor graded pretty harshly considering that this was just the required speech 101 class and not some advanced class for communication majors.  Even with my low expectations and her harsh grading system, I actually pulled off a B – 86%!  I also think I pretty much conquered my public speaking phobia, or at the very least, made a huge dent in it.

I absolutely loved my Abnormal Psychology class.  The Professor was fun, the material interesting and challenging, and since I am obsessed with Psychology and it is my major, I wanted an A.  I got it!  I don’t know the exact percentage yet because the final grades haven’t been posted (yes, I’m checking every 15 minutes or so) but she told me when I left last night that I had an A.  I will miss her and that class.

It will be nice to have a few weeks off before the next semester starts.  Next up….Statistics.  YIKES.

Thanks for stopping by!

    Ick, stats?!

And about schools closing…I remember having to get up early so we could shovel for mom and dad and still get to school on time. (With canvas shoes that she so generously sprayed with that fabric protector. What a sweet heart!)

I also remember walking back wards to school on a number of occasions so the wind wasn’t in my face. Furthermore, it really sucks that these kids have to be so sheltered (from the crazies) that they can’t even walk half a mile to school. We did it every day for years! (Up hill both ways!)

Memories, memories. I have never been as cold in my life as I was in Chicago once, waiting on an El platform. It was only in the 30’s, but the wind was fierce. The winters I lived in the Midwest were cold, endless and there was little snow. It got down to 30 below once.

Blowing a few soft breezes at you from Hawaii.
