Eat, Pray, Love
When my sister suggested that I read Eat, Pray, Love, I was less than enthusiastic. First of all, she told me she had heard about it on Oprah. I have nothing against Oprah but don’t normally share her taste in books. Also, my sister is not an avid reader like I am and rarely finishes any book I recommend to her so I didn’t think we shared the same taste in books either. She brought it over anyway and it sat on my kitchen counter for several weeks. My sister can be very….persuasive…when she wants to be and kept insisting that I read this freakin’ book. So, when I packed for my trip, I threw it my suitcase, mostly just to get her off my back about it!
It turned out to be serendipitous in a seemingly metaphysical way that I read this book while on this trip. I don’t know why but I thought it was going to be some sappy, tearjerker that would end up as a movie on the Hallmark channel or even worse, filled with daily affirmations or some other nonsense. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This chick was as fucked up as I was! And so honest, and funny, about it! While our budgets and time-frames were much different (1 year & 3 countries for her, 4 days & 1 state for me), everything else was the same. I couldn’t put it down, literally, and actually laughed out loud MANY times, sometimes in public.
The title explains the premise of the book much better and more concisely than I could here. All I can say is….READ IT! Oh, and sis; thanks for being so….persuasive!
Thanks for stopping by!

I have been wanting to read that book! Now, it sounds like I need to get on it !
YOUR WELCOME!!!!
God I love that book!
I read the book last year at the urging of my personal trainer and enjoyed it (especially the eat part in Italy). They are making a movie of it, with Julia Roberts in the title role.
i LOVED that book — it screamed to me that if she could figure out her path to peace, i can too!!! i have passages marked off that i re-read. she is gifted and wonderful, and her larger message so important for those of us struggling to find their way through to their own self.
i am sorry they are making it into a movie — it is one of those books that will be interpreted differently based on one’s own experiences, and the movie will just be one person’s view. i hate when they do that…
I should probably read the book before I see the movie. Looks good and Julia Roberts appears to be a good fit for the role.
