My Love Affair…
— Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird)
….with books….
I LOVE books. I love to read them, of course. But I also love the way they feel, look and smell. I love surrounding myself with shelves and shelves of them. I love hanging out in bookstores and libraries, just browsing, for hours at a time. I love the knowledge I gain and the emotions I experience. I love the words and the ways different authors put them together. There are some books that I’ve read over and over again. I’m an official card-carrying book-nerd, and not at all ashamed to admit it!
I attribute my love of books to my Aunt Kay. She’s a teacher and an avid reader. I also remember several books from childhood/early adulthood that had a profound effect on me: A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L’Engle, The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Ok, obviously I could go on and on so I’ll stop there.
I love all types of books. I read everything from trashy romance novels to poetry to biographies to true crime, and my current personal favorite genre; psychology.
There’s a great website for folks like me; www.goodreads.com. Check it out sometime. You can keep a running list of books you’ve read and books you want to read, connect and compare with friends, discuss books, review them and read others’ reviews, and organize your books into categories.
When my kids were younger, I didn’t make time for reading. I went several years during which the only books I read were the “What To Expect…” books (www.whattoexpect.com). Have you given up on reading since you became a Mom, simply because you don’t have the time? I understand! But if you love reading, you can always find the time. You can read while waiting for doctor’s appointments, at your kids’ sports practices, on your lunch hour, after the kids are in bed…I’m sure you can think of other times. Those dishes and that laundry will still be waiting there for you after you give yourself an hour to do something YOU enjoy.
Thanks for stopping by!

We read to the kids almost daily (at bed time). They fight over who gets to pick it out!
I love to read too. I read ALL the time. I actually work in a public library. (my dream employer). In my blog I mention it’s so I can be close to my drug of choice…BOOKS. Thanks for posting this to Biblio Crush. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/group.php?gid=34870709385&ref=ts I wouldn’t have seen it otherwise as I just started reading your blog!
